The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh three-day weather forecast, warning of thunderstorms and rainfall of varying intensities across major parts of the country from Monday, 21 July to Wednesday, 23 July 2025.
In a statement posted on its official X platform, NiMet advised residents in the North, South, and Central regions to prepare for unsettled weather conditions, including storms, moderate rainfall, and strong winds.
On Monday morning, thunderstorms and rain are expected in Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. The Central region will experience cloudy skies in the morning, followed by thunderstorms as the day progresses.
NiMet forecast that Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Benue, and Niger will receive rainfall later in the day. Light morning rains are likely in Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa, with moderate rains forecast across Plateau, Niger, the FCT, and Nasarawa in the afternoon.
Tuesday will begin with mostly cloudy skies in the Central states, with moderate rainfall expected later across the FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara.
By Wednesday morning, thunderstorms and rain are predicted in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba, spreading later to Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, and Kebbi. Central states such as the FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara will again experience cloudy mornings, followed by moderate rain later in the day.
In the South, rain is expected each morning in Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with heavier rainfall moving into Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom as the days progress.
NiMet noted that the Northern region will see isolated thunderstorms, particularly on Sunday and Monday afternoons, affecting parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, and Yobe.
Thunderstorm activity is forecast to resume on Tuesday morning in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba, and spread to more areas such as Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, and Kebbi by evening.
Cloudy conditions will prevail in the South during the three-day forecast, with Monday and Tuesday expected to bring morning rains to Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Enugu, followed by heavier downpours in the afternoon across several states.
NiMet warned that strong winds may precede rainfall in thunderstorm-prone areas. The agency urged the public to secure loose items, avoid driving in heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and stay away from tall trees to avoid injury from falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to request airport-specific forecasts for safe flight planning. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through NiMet’s official channels and website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
