A total of nine individuals were arrested for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Saturday in a post on X.com, stating that the arrests were made on Friday by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps.
He wrote, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”
Wahab had earlier disclosed that 17 individuals were arrested on Thursday night at Berger for open urination, defecation, and not using the pedestrian bridge.
The state government’s zero-tolerance stance on open defecation is part of its broader efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents.
The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources also commenced cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its effort to end open defecation.
