Nine kidnapped Delta students regain freedom

The Delta State Police Command successfully rescued nine students who were kidnapped along the East-West Road in Ughelli, Delta State.

Reports state that the abduction of the students on Monday.

Confirming the rescue, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, posted on his X handle late Monday, quoting Channels Television’s report, “All nine of the victims have regained their freedom pls.”

The students were reportedly traveling in a minibus at the time of the abduction.

The PPRO had informed Channels Television that the abducted individuals “may have been students who were returning from their school in Calabar, Cross River State on Friday night.”

The bus driver escaped unharmed, and no ransom demands were made by the kidnappers, while the police swiftly responded to the incident.

“The command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” the state PPRO tweeted on his X handle earlier on Monday.

Less than a month ago, 137 schoolchildren from the LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School were kidnapped in Kaduna State on March 7.

During the abduction, which lasted for several weeks, a teacher named Mallam Abubakar tragically lost his life due to complications while in captivity.

Following their rescue, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani pledged to provide free education to the schoolchildren. Additionally, he mentioned that the students received counseling and therapy from psychologists.
