The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has once again disassociated itself from the popular X account, “Nigeria National Grid,” insisting that the handle is not authorised and calling on the public and media outlets to refrain from relying on its posts. However, the warning has continued to draw mixed reactions from Nigerians.
In a statement dated June 5, 2026, NISO maintained that it has no connection to the account, noting that the individuals behind it are not known to the organisation.
The operator also revealed that it had previously issued a similar disclaimer on January 17, 2026, indicating that the earlier advisory appeared to have had little impact.
“The public, media organisations, and all stakeholders are strongly advised not to quote, reference, rely upon, or attribute any information, statements, claims, or opinions published on the said account to NISO.
“Any such content does not represent the official position, operations, or activities of the organisation,” NISO said.
NISO directed the public to its official platforms for authorised communications — #OFFICIALNISO_NG on X, its Facebook and LinkedIn pages under “Nigerian Independent System Operator,” Instagram at #officialniso_ng, and its website, niso.org.ng.
The “Nigeria National Grid” account on X regularly posts data on Nigeria’s electricity generation, tracking figures such as the total megawatts being generated and transmitted across the national grid at any given time.
It also monitors and reports grid collapses and partial failures, often in real time, and has become a go-to reference for journalists, energy analysts and ordinary Nigerians seeking information on the state of the country’s power supply.
The account has amassed a significant following on the platform.
