NJC recommends appointment of 64 judges

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of Justices Nathan Musa and Ozoemena Raymond Afojulu as the Chief Judges of Adamawa and Enugu states.

It also recommended the appointment of two Grand Kadis for the Sharia Courts of Appeal in Adamawa and Niger states; and five Presidents of the Customary Courts of Appeal in Abia, Adamawa, Cross River, Osun and Plateau states.

They are: Kadis Usman Aliyu Girei and Abubakar Musa Mohammed Kigera (as Grand Kadis for the Sharia Courts of Appeal in Adamawa and Niger states).

Others are Justices O. I. Nwamoh; Wajilda Peter; Eneji Maurice Odey; Shiyanbola Raheem Akanbi, and Blessing Lyop Dalyop (as Presidents, Customary Courts of Appeal in Abia, Adamawa, Cross River, Osun and Plateau states).

The NJC, according to its Director, Information, Soji Oye on Friday, made the recommendations at its 96th meeting held in Abuja between December 14 and 15.

According to Oye, the NJC further recommended the appointment of 54 judges.

He said all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval of NJC’s recommendations by the respective state governors and the respective state Houses of Assembly, as the case may be.

The distribution of the judges is as follows:

The High Court of Lagos State got 14.

For Lagos are Okunuga Olubusola Adeyemi, Adeyemi Adenrera Olayinka, Oshin Olufolake Olufolasade, Odusanya Oluwatoyin Atinuke, Martins Olumuyiwa Oluseun, Ariyike Mutiat Ipaye-Nwachukwu, and Babatunde Oladepo Kalaro.

Others are Awope Omolade Jadesola; Akinkunmi Olusegun Idowu; Oresanya Olalekan Ayodeji; Oshodi Mujibat Iyabode; Ijelu Ismail Olalekan; Balogun Mosunmola Muyibat, and Mathias Oluwole Dawodu.

For the High Court of Sokoto State are Sanusi Shehu; Mu’awiya Dahiru Mahmud; Abubakar Abubakar Zaki; Mohammad Aliyu Sambo and Maryam Muhammad.

For the High Court of Nasarawa State are Isa Ebini Kana; Ali Tari Changbo; Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shama and Solomon Wayidna Ayenajeh.

For the High Court of Ogun State are Adeyemi Adekunle Adewole and Bello Safrat Titilayo.

For the High Court of Bayelsa State are Lockie James Benimo; Zuofa Ama Patience; Simon Warikiyei Amaduobogha and Christine Irigha Kombo-Enegesi.

For the High Court of Cross River State are Daniel Ofre Kulo; Rita Otu Marshall Odibu Emmanuel Ekaya, and Obin Blessing Egwu.

For the High Court of Rivers State are Popnen Sylvester Sunday; Daketima Gabriel Kio; Nsirim Chinwe Amanda, and Chinelo Chidubem Odili.

For Ekiti State are Apuabi Johnson Ariyibi; Blessing Oluwabukola Ajileye; Olalekan Olayinka Olatawura, and Oyinkansola Olumayowa Oluboyede.

For the Sharia Court of Appeal, Sokoto State, are Buhari Yahaya and Umar Jibril Kebbe.

For the Sharia Court of Appeal, Katsina State, is Kabir Hamisu Bello.

For the Sharia Court of Appeal, Jigawa State, are Bara’u Bashir Musa; Ahmad Muhammadu Lamin, and Nasiru Abubakar Zargina.

For the Customary Court of Appeal, Ebonyi State, is Awada Paul Mgbada.

For the Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State, are Olukemi Folasade Osisanya; Odugbesan Idowu Adebiyi, and Akinsinde Oluwasina Philip.

For the Customary Court of Appeal, Cross River, are Obo Agbor Anthony; Ititim Felix Igobi; Eunice Oshim Dada, and Ankpor Jeremiah Arong.
