NLC strike: Kano electricity workers shut down head office

In alignment with the two-day warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, the National Electricity Workers Union took action this Tuesday morning by closing down the headquarters of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, situated on Post Office Road in the urban area metropolitan city.

It would be recalled that the National Executive Council of the NLC, following its meeting on August 31, 2023, decided to initiate a two-day warning strike.

The union instructed its members to go on strike from Tuesday, September 5, to Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

The strike is a protest against the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government without due consultation with key stakeholders.

The strike is also a protest against the government’s refusal to provide proper and effective measures to cushion the effects of the economic hardship resulting from the subsidy removal.

Upon reaching out for verification, Sani Bala, the Head of Corporate Communications at KEDCO, affirmed the situation, emphasizing that it aligns completely with the NLC’s instructions. directive.

In his reaction, the Kano State NLC Vice Chairman, Comrade Ado Riruwai, who is leading the enforcement campaign, likewise verified that all government offices in the state have been closed down.

Comrade Ado Riruwai, also confirmed that banks in the state have complied with the directive to shut down. He added that he would be going to the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to ensure that no aircraft lands or takes off, following the NLC’s directive.
