NMA seeks immediate sack of Kano Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State branch, has urged the Kano State government to immediately dismiss the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Amina Abdullahi, citing her lack of respect and compassion for frontline healthcare workers and her disregard for the ethical standards of the profession.

The NMA made this appeal in a statement released on Monday, shared with Channels Television.

The call follows an incident at the paediatric unit of Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where a female doctor, working alone, was attending to around a hundred patients in the paediatric unit.

It is reported that she was harassed and physically assaulted by a group allegedly directed by the commissioner on 1st November 2024.

The association has issued a 48-hour ultimatum, starting Monday, for a prompt response from Governor Abba Yusuf, warning that failure to act will result in the indefinite suspension of all medical services across Kano State.

The NMA stated that this action is intended to address the existing challenges within the healthcare system and support reforms aimed at improving the quality of healthcare delivery in the state.
