Olufemi Ajadi, the New Nigeria People’s Party candidate for governor in Ogun State, asserts that former governor Ibikunle Amosun urged him to resign so that he could support Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress.
Ajadi claimed he rejected the former governor’s pledges and noted that his party is not allied with any other political party.
The NNPP governorship candidate claimed in a speech on Thursday in Abeokuta that he had rejected the offers because they went against the wishes of the state’s residents.
He said, “When his candidate was still in court, I met with Amosun and he wanted to support me but unfortunately, we could not work together because his candidate, Biyi Otegbeye eventually won the case. That was the reason why our meeting could not yield any positive result.
“Amosun was the only one who had called me to step down for Biyi Otegbeye and I was offered a lot of things, but I could not agree because I can’t sell Nigerian youths because I’m an ambassador for the Nigerian youths.
“I am still in the race; there is no going back on my ambition, I’m not in any alliance with any political party or candidate.”
Ajadi also denied the rumour that his party will collapse the structure for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ladi Adebutu.
He further said, “Nobody has the funds to buy my party and Olufemi Ajadi, they don’t have that fund. No politician in Nigeria has that fund to buy me off the ballot.
“As long as I am still standing as an ambassador for the Nigerian youths, I can never sell out. I am still standing on my feet and we are not negotiating with any political party and we are not ready to negotiate.
“Although I have been told that it is always good to have alliance with other political parties, I don’t believe in such because I believe that it is only God that can enthrone a leader.
He admitted that when he learned that his party had joined forces with the PDP, he was astounded. As the party’s candidate, I was not informed of this by those concerned, who also added that this is not how things are done.
