The national coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, says Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has consistently held the federal government accountable.

Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, on Wednesday, Tanko noted that Obi stands out for addressing issues rather than personalities.

“When you listen to Peter Obi, he choreographs and arranges exactly what he intends to do. He is not a laissez-faire type of leader,” Tanko said.

“Even today, no political party candidate has kept this government on its toes the way the opposition should, like Peter Obi has done.

“He speaks to the issues; he doesn’t talk about individuals. He talks about matters that concern everybody — pulling people out of poverty, ensuring access to health facilities.”

Addressing Obi’s pledge of a one-term presidency, Tanko said the former Anambra governor has consistently provided practical solutions to Nigeria’s critical problems.

“Peter Obi will deal with the issues that concern the ordinary man head-on. In his first year, he will address the issue of hunger,” he said.

“When you get hunger out of the system, people start making income. These are simple things this government is not taking care of.”

Meanwhile, Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has urged Obi and other prospective candidates for the 2027 presidential election to avoid making one-term commitments.
