The Presidency has affirmed that the newly introduced tax laws will be implemented according to schedule, including those signed into law on June 26, 2025, as well as the remaining legislation set to take effect from January 1, 2026.

In a statement issued on December 30, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the tax reforms as a rare opportunity to establish a stronger, more equitable, and competitive fiscal framework for the country. He clarified that the reforms are not designed to impose additional tax burdens on citizens but to reset the system structurally, improve harmonisation, and reinforce the social contract while safeguarding public welfare.

The President called on all stakeholders to fully back the rollout of the reforms, stressing that the process has moved beyond planning and is now firmly in the implementation phase. Addressing concerns about alleged alterations to certain sections of the tax laws, Tinubu said no serious issue has been identified that justifies halting or delaying the reform agenda.

He added that public confidence is earned through consistent and well-considered decisions, rather than rushed or reactionary actions.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s respect for due process and the sanctity of existing laws, assuring that the government would collaborate with the National Assembly to promptly address any challenges that may emerge.

He also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to building a tax system that encourages economic growth, fairness, and shared responsibility.

The statement was personally signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
