No lives lost in Banana Island building collapse — LASEMA

The Lagos State Disaster Management Agency has announced that no lives were lost in collapsed building in Banana Island, Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

On Wednesday, the agency posted a statement on its Facebook page with the title “Situation report on the collapsed building at 1st Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi.”

Parts of the statement read, Upon the arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the scene of the incident, a six-storey building under construction was found to have collapsed.

“Information gathered revealed that the building collapsed as a result of a truck that ran into the building.

“Fortunately, no loss of life, however, efforts are ongoing to reconstruct the building to ground zero to forestall any secondary incident. Recovery operations ongoing.”

NewsClickng had earlier reported that a seven-story structure under construction, collapsed on First Avenue in the Banana Island estate on Wednesday.

Seven people in all were extricated from the wreckage.

The building, which had been under construction for months, suddenly collapsed at 4.58 p.m. while workers were going about their daily business inside of it.
