No official report of threats against Isese festival in Ilorin — Police

The Kwara State Police Command stated on Sunday that it has not received an official report regarding the alleged threat by the Majlisu Shabab li Ulamahu Society, a Muslim group, on the planned Isese Festival in four local government areas of the state.

According to reports, members of the group reportedly visited the residence of Yeye Ajesikemi Olokun Omolara Olatunji in Ilorin to caution her against organizing the festival.

Olokun had previously released flyers announcing a three-day traditional event aimed at celebrating certain Yoruba deities.

The Muslim group claimed to be acting upon instructions from the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and expressed their determination to prevent Olokun and others from allegedly desecrating Ilorin, which they consider a Muslim town.

However, the police command has not received an official report regarding this matter.

While reacting to the report, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi Jeffrey, stated that the command is yet to be notified of the warning but will find out the crux of the matter

He said, “Kwara Police Command has not received any official report from any citizens concerning the warning to Yeye Olokun you referred to.”

Ajayi also reiterated the command’s readiness to forestall any face-off that could arise between the Muslim community and the Traditionalists in the state as a result of the ban.

“We are firmly on ground to forestall any security breach that could happen,” he assured.
