No ransom paid for abducted Nasarawa LG chairman – Police

The Nasarawa State Police Command, on Wednesday, said no ransom was paid for the release of Safiyanu Andaha, the abducted chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, revealed this in an interview with PUNCH Online.

Reports state that gunmen abducted him alongside one other male, Adamu Umar on New Year’s Day at Ningo village along Andaha-Akwanga Road.

According to report, the abducted chairman has been released.

While responding to a text if truly a ransom was paid, the PPRO said, “No ransom was paid. The victim and the person the abductors contacted confirmed to us that no dime was paid.”

“They were released at about 8.40pm (Tuesday) due to sustained pressure mounted on them by our operatives deployed on their trail.”

Report state that the abductors had requested a ransom of N50 million for their release.

Additionally, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) stated that the Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, had deployed personnel to pursue the criminals and secure the release of the kidnapped chairman and another individual.
