The North-East Governors Forum has noted that while the security situation in the region is getting better, there is a requirement for increased collaboration among member states in formulating the security framework for the region.
The forum conveyed this information on Saturday at the conclusion of its ninth meeting held in Yola, Adamawa State. During the meeting, the governors of the North-East region, including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), resolved to collaborate more closely with security agencies to develop a shared security roadmap for the North-East.
The gathering took place at the Adamawa Government House in Yola, where the governors were welcomed by Governor Umaru Fintiri. During the meeting at the Government House’s banquet hall, Zulum, the forum’s Chairman, praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to maintaining peace in the country. Zulum emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address the significant challenges facing the region.
In his welcome address, Fintiri highlighted that since its inception, the forum had charted a new course and garnered the necessary attention for the region.
Following this, the meeting entered a closed-door session, concluding with the issuance of a communique presented by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
Other issues discussed at the meeting included a planned trade fair to be hosted by Bauchi State, among others. The NEGF will hold its 10th meeting in Bauchi between February 23 and March 26, 2024.
