In Niger State, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has appointed 131 women to various political positions, a move that comes at a time when Nigerians are urging the government to cut down on the cost of governance.
Reports have it that the breakdown of the 131 women appointees showed that 41 are to serve as coordinators while the remaining 90 will serve as Senior Special Assistants (SSAs).
In a statement released on Saturday, August 19, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor’s spokesman, disclosed the information.

Bago while speaking said the appointments were made in keeping with his campaign promise to give women a more prominent role in government.
Bago said he was committed to ensuring that women contribute to the building of the state, and he urged the 131 women appointees to use their positions to make a positive difference contribute their quota to the success of his administration’s policy thrusts.
