NPC Commissioner abducted in Rivers; kidnappers demand N500 million

Gloria Izonfuo, the Federal Commissioner for Bayelsa State at the National Population Commission (NPC), has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Rivers State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the event  saying Izonfuo was kidnapped on Sunday evening together with her maid and driver near the Ogbakiri junction on the East-West route.

The NPC commissioner was reportedly on her way back to Port Harcourt from Brass, Bayelsa State where she serves as Federal Commissioner when her vehicle was set on by the kidnappers.

As of Monday, the abductors are said to have made contact with the family and are demanding N500 million as ransom.

The Police PRO also revealed that the Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical teams to ensure she is rescued safe and unhurt.
