The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 85-year-old Ibrahim Haruna for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in the Kongo community of Keffi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
The Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Jerry Victor, disclosed the incident during a press briefing in Lafia, the state capital. He explained that the victim’s elder sister raised the alarm after noticing the young girl walking uncomfortably, with blood dripping from her legs. Upon inquiry, the little girl narrated her ordeal, accusing the elderly suspect of the act.
According to the PRO, Haruna allegedly lured the child into his room when no one was around and committed the offense. A medical report presented during the briefing confirmed that the child had been defiled.
Victor further stated that the case would be handed over to the State Ministry of Justice for further investigation and swift prosecution. Meanwhile, the suspect, Ibrahim Haruna, denied the allegations, claiming they were fabricated. Investigations revealed that the victim’s family and the accused man were neighbors.
In a separate development, the Nasarawa State Command of the NSCDC has arrested three suspected cultists accused of causing destruction and harassing residents in the Layin Yan Kaji and Super Cinema areas of Lafia. Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made pistols, live cartridges, ammunition, a phone, pliers, and scissors.
The Corps spokesperson reaffirmed their commitment to combating crime and reducing vandalism of public and private property across the state. This follows a violent clash in December last year between rival cult gangs in the same areas, which resulted in the destruction of six vehicles and the burning of a motorcycle.
