Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have apprehended six individuals involved in the theft of motorcycles, specializing in violent attacks and the robbery of bikes from unsuspecting members of the public in Kano State.
The suspects were arrested in the Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the NSCDC’s state command, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday.
“The six suspects arrested are in the custody of the NSCDC. Investigation is ongoing for necessary legal action,” Abdullahi stated.
The suspects are identified as Najib Lawal (25), Bashir Bello Idris (34), Lawan Yakubu (27), Kabiru Garba (29), Hussain Hassan (24), and Mubarak Basiru (21).
He disclosed that two members of the gang remain at large, and a serious manhunt has been launched to apprehend them.
“Two of the suspects, Mubarak Basiru and Hussain Hassan, had earlier, on 14th January 2025, around 0300hrs, forcefully broken into Malam Abdullahi Bala’s house at Gurin Gawa, Kumbotso Local Government. They assaulted him and eventually made away with his motorbike.
“With the assistance of vigilante members and men of the Corps at Kumbotso Division, the two attackers were successfully apprehended.
“Four additional suspects, including two receivers of stolen motorcycles, are also in the custody of the NSCDC. Moreover, two motorbikes have so far been recovered, and investigations are being intensified to recover more,” he said.
He further mentioned that the Commandant, Mohammed Falala, has instructed the armed squad unit to deploy operatives for regular patrols along the Eastern Bypass, aiming to prevent criminal activities in the area and other parts of the metropolis.
