Mr. Edwin Osuala, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State, has expressed the command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Navy in safeguarding vital national assets and infrastructure within the state.
Osuala emphasized that this partnership would also enhance efforts to combat illegal oil activities and facility vandalism occurring in the state.
He made these remarks during a visit to Navy Captain Godfrey Osuobeni, the Naval Commander of the Nigerian Navy Outpost in Onitsha, on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, Osuala’s visit aimed to solidify the longstanding relationship between NSCDC, the leading agency responsible for protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, and the Nigerian Navy, which he reaffirmed as a crucial ally in combating illicit activities involving petroleum products.
He said, “I am here to seek your support in our desire as the lead agency saddled with the responsibility to protect oil pipelines and other critical national assets and infrastructure from vandalism. But I may not be able to do it alone if I don’t bring other services on board to work in tandem with our mandate; that is why am here to align forces with you.
“The NSCDC is determined to rid the nooks and crannies of the state of crime in collaboration with other sister security agencies through sharing of intelligence, joint operations, and capacity building for effective results.”
Speaking, Capt. Osuobeni highlighted the need for stronger synergy among security agencies in the war against criminal-minded persons sabotaging the nation’s economy through illegal petroleum bunkering.
He said, “Nigerian Navy will continue to work with you to stop all criminals and economic saboteurs from attacking the country’s critical infrastructure.”
He assured that the Naval Outpost will close rank with the NSCDC on operational support, logistics, and other areas to enhance its operations.
