Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, rescued a middle-aged woman who allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the Gbodofon River in Osogbo.
Reportedly, the woman, who traveled from Iragbiji to Osogbo, the state capital, expressed her intent to end her life due to a sensation of burning in her body. Allegedly, she believed that jumping into the Osun River was the only way to extinguish the perceived fire.
According to a statement from the Osun NSCDC spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, officers from the NSCDC command successfully rescued the woman on Tuesday following a distress call reporting the incident.
“The Search and Rescue Team of the command received a distress call from a member of the public and in less than 10 minutes, our officers were at the scene to rescue the victim.
“The victim, a middle-aged woman, was resuscitated and later taken to the hospital for medical attention.” the statement said.
Adeleke mentioned that Agboola Sunday, the Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, praised the Search and Rescue Team for their prompt response and effective application of their disaster management training.
