Yuletide: NSCDC deploys 25,000 personnel nationwide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assigned 25,000 personnel to safeguard lives and critical infrastructure nationwide during the Yuletide season.

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, conveyed this information in an interview with the newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

Audi mentioned that the deployed personnel, sourced from various tactical units within the corps, will be actively engaged in surveillance to guarantee that citizens can celebrate the festive season without apprehension.

“I would like to assure Nigerians that the corps will come out massively to ensure they provide safety for Nigerians.

“In collaboration with sister agencies, we will ensure to secure citizens while they have fun, especially at entertainment centres.

“We want this period to be devoid of crisis or any unfortunate scene that could cause confusion,” he said.

The commandant general emphasized the readiness of the corps to address any individual with intentions of causing chaos during the yuletide season.

In Lagos State, the NSCDC has deployed 2,500 personnel to ensure heightened security throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Seun Abolurin, the spokesperson for the NSCDC, conveyed this in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos.

The deployed personnel are sourced from various departments, including Operations, Intelligence, Investigation, Anti–vandal, Armed Squad, and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosives Units.

Simultaneously, the NSCDC has deployed 2,345 personnel to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure across the state during this period. Basil Igwebueze, the State NSCDC Commandant for Rivers State Command, revealed this in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Olufemi Ayodele, on Friday.

Igwebueze indicated that the deployment was a response to the security challenges during the festive period.

In a separate development, the Kaduna State Police Command has enhanced security measures to protect lives and property during and after the Christmas celebration in the state.

A statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, released on Friday, mentioned the deployment of regular and Mobile Policemen across the state to ensure robust security throughout the festive period.

The command reassured the state’s residents of its preparedness to promptly respond to distress calls whenever necessary.

Additionally, it issued a stern warning, declaring its intent to take decisive action against any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the relative peace in the state.

In Sokoto State, as a proactive measure for a secure yuletide celebration, the Nigeria Police Force, Sokoto State command, has strategically deployed both human and material resources throughout the state.

This deployment, as outlined in a statement released to the media by the command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Rufai, emphasizes visible policing at places of worship, event centers, and targeted operations at identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties.
