The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has discovered five illegal crude oil dumps located in the Jahi/Katampe area of Abuja.
This information was shared in a statement by NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, on Thursday in Abuja.
The corps also reported the arrest of seven individuals connected to the unlawful production and distribution of crude oil.
According to NSCDC, the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) recovered trucks filled with stolen Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) from these suspects.
Among the seized items were a white truck with three compartments containing 45,000 liters of AGO, for which a questionable waybill was present, as well as four Mercedes-Benz short peddler trucks and various other vehicles.
The operation also led to the confiscation of pumping machines, hoses of different sizes, a Mikano generator, approximately 23 surface metallic tanks (some filled with significant amounts of suspected AGO), and other related items.
The NSCDC stated that the arrests made by the CG’s SIS demonstrate the corps’ commitment to combating crude oil theft throughout the country.
The spokesperson added that those apprehended will face prosecution to serve as a warning to others engaged in criminal activities. (NAN)
