The National Youth Service stated on Monday that the 2023 Batch A Stream II orientation course of the scheme will start on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
The 21-day orientation programme prepares and trains the qualified participants for the one-year required service.
While adding that some of those deployed to the FCT will attend their orientation course at Nasarawa and Niger Camps, it was further stated that the orientation course for Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory will begin on May 3, 2023. Some PCMs who have been deployed to Lagos will complete their orientation in the camps in Ogun and Osun.
To learn more about their deployment, the scheme advised all prospective corps members to visit the NYSC online.
It added, “2023 Batch ‘A Stream II PCMs deployed to Lagos State that have been dislodged to Ogun and Osun States for their orientation course are expected to report on April 26, 2023.
“2023 Batch ‘A Stream II PCMs deployed to FCT that have been dislodged to Nasarawa and Niger States for their Orientation Course are to report on the April 26 2023”
According to earlier reports, the Scheme has asked redeployment requests from married female potential corps members sent to states other than the ones where their spouses reside.
“All married female Prospective Corps members (PCMs) who are deployed to states where their husbands are not domiciled should report to the nearest NYSC Orientation Camp for their State of Deployment to be changed.
“They are to report during the period of registration at the Orientation Camps with copies of their marital and other relevant documents as evidence.”
NYSC is a scheme established by the Nigerian government during the military regime on May 22, 1973, to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country.
It was established based on decree No. 24 which stated that the scheme was created “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”
A graduate must be under 30 years old when they graduate in order to be eligible for the Scheme. A graduate who completed their degree before turning 30 but skipped the service year will still be eligible because their diploma was issued before they turned 30.
But people over 30 receive a Certificate of Exemption, which is comparable to a NYSC Discharge Certificate.
Successful Corps members receive a certificate for satisfactorily engaging in the programme at the conclusion of their service year.
