The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed has called on the National Assembly, for more support which is to help the scheme continue to fulfill its obligation to unite Nigerians.

According to him, the support from the National Assembly will help the scheme to help the scheme achieve more than in the last 50 years of its existence.

The NYSC DG solicited when he visited the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth Development, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Youth Development, Martins Esin.

Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed congratulated the lawmakers on their election as chairmen of the Senate and House Committees, and said the “NYSC would not relent in its contributions to national unity, socio-economic development of the country, youth empowerment, wealth creation, among others”.

He also emphasized the need to build stronger ties with the lawmakers to ensure that the concerns of the youth are prioritized.

In their remarks, Adaramodu and Esin pledged to provide the necessary support to create a conducive environment for the scheme to fulfill its mandate.

In a recent essay competition/national symposium organized by the NYSC, six corps members emphasized the need for Nigeria to build strong institutions in order to achieve sustainable growth and development. The symposium, which was held last week, was themed “Building Strong Institutions: A Pathway to a National Rebirth.”

The meeting, organized by the Bible Society of Nigeria, held in Lagos.

The six finalists agreed that the foundation of a strong institution is the family, the smallest unit of society. Praise Modekwe, a corps member serving in Cross River State, who won the competition, pointed out that most developed countries have achieved development by establishing strong institutions that uphold the rule of law.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the event, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said, “Without strong institutions, the future will be bleak. The wealthiest countries in the world have something in common; they have strong institutions.”

The President of the Broadcasting Society of Nigeria (BSN), Bishop Olubunmi Banwo, who was represented by the society’s Treasurer, Bolaji Adisa, noted that Nigeria has strong men but lacks strong institutions.

“Institutions are very important to stabilize mankind. You are the driver of strong institutions. You cannot erase the ancient landmark. You can only build on it,” he stated.
