The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has reported the disappearance of a female student to the police.

In a statement on Sunday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said Dorcas Oseghale, a Chemistry student with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, had been missing for four days.

Olarewaju explained that Dorcas was last seen at about 8 p.m. on August 6, 2025. She lived at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, and had told her roommate she was going to buy food near the students’ village along Ede Road. When she did not return promptly, her roommate repeatedly tried to call her but found both of her lines unreachable.

On August 7, around 3 p.m., the university’s Security Unit began monitoring discussions on a students’ social media platform after receiving a report of a missing student. By 6:10 p.m., a search party of Chemistry students, accompanied by her roommate, reported the matter formally to the Security Unit.

Given the complexity of the case and the Security Unit’s limited resources, three security personnel were assigned to work with the students and forward preliminary findings to the police.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire commended the students for their swift action in reporting the disappearance and urged the police and other security agencies to make every effort to locate Dorcas.

He appealed to anyone with useful information about her whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.
