Obi, Datti, present in court as tribunal resumes hearing

Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s nominees for President and Vice President, are present at the ongoing presidential election tribunal.

Festus Keyamo, a former minister of state for labour and employment, is also in attendance at the tribunal and is participating as a lawyer for President Bola Tinubu’s legal team.

A petition was submitted by Obi and the Labour Party contesting Tinubu’s election as the All Progressives Congress candidate for president on February 25, 2023.

Livy Ozoukwu, the principal attorney for LP and Obi, claimed that Tinubu “was not duly elected by the majority of the lawful votes cast at the time of the election” in the petition with the file number CA/PEPC/03/2023.

Among other allegations, they claimed that Kashim Shettima, vice-president, had a double nomination in contravention of the electoral act.

A proper hearing of the petition commenced on Tuesday and the first witness has been called.
