The Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants to act as change agents and boost civic engagement across the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement issued in Abeokuta by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the move fulfils his pledge to deepen democratic participation and widen access to the dividends of democracy.

Akinmade described the appointments as a strategic effort to strengthen governance at the grassroots. Each of the 236 wards will have five assistants tasked with enhancing local participation in decision-making and bridging the gap between communities and government.

The new aides will identify the needs of their wards, present them to the state government, and provide accurate feedback in return.

The governor’s office stressed that the initiative honours Abiodun’s campaign promise of an all-inclusive government and urged the appointees to contribute actively to the growth of their wards, local governments, and the state.
