The Ogun Assembly, on Tuesday, swore in Olakunle Sobukanla of the All Progressives Congress representing Ikenne Constituency as a member of the 10th Assembly.
This development occurred following the Court of Appeal’s nullification of the election of Babajide Owoduni of the Peoples Democratic Party. In a November ruling, the Court declared Olakunle Sobukanla, a member of the 9th legislature, as the rightful representative.
Sobukanla officially assumed his duties by taking the oath of office and allegiance, administered by Deputy Clerk Mrs. Funmilayo Adeyemi, during a plenary session at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, speaking on behalf of fellow lawmakers, congratulated Sobukanla on his return to the House of Assembly. Following his swearing-in, Sobukanla pledged to consistently serve as an effective representative for his constituents.
“I am very happy to be back to where I belong. My constituency should expect quality representation as usual. I thank Governor Dapo Abiodun for his support,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Abuja-based Court of Appeal has upheld the electoral victory of Oluomo, who represents Ifo 1 State Constituency, in the recent general election, against his opponent Okikiola Ogundele of the PDP. Additionally, the appellant was fined N500,000 by the appeal court.
Expressing his response to the verdict, Oluomo emphasized that the judgment reaffirms his victory, which has been consistently upheld from the ballot box to the appellate court. He expressed gratitude to his constituents for their trust in his representation and commended the judiciary for its steadfast commitment to justice in advancing democracy.
Oluomo also noted that the judgment serves as motivation for him to intensify his efforts for the betterment of his constituents and the state.
