The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo, has urged police officers in the state to uphold ethical conduct and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Ogunlowo gave the charge during a tour of the Ilaro Area Command on Tuesday, where he addressed officers and reiterated key directives aimed at fostering public trust in the police force.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner conveyed a directive from the Inspector General of Police mandating all tactical officers to be fully dressed in police uniforms while on duty. He warned that any officer found operating in mufti during official assignments would face severe disciplinary actions.

Engaging with newly posted constables to various divisions, Ogunlowo stressed the importance of maintaining good public relations. He urged them to prioritise professionalism, serve the public diligently, and treat citizens with respect and decorum.

“The police are public servants, and under no circumstances should firearms be used to intimidate the public,” Ogunlowo said. He reminded officers that they are not trained to kill and stressed the need for strict adherence to laws governing the use of firearms.

The CP also addressed the proper maintenance of patrol vehicles, cautioning against reckless handling or misuse of police assets. He warned that deliberate negligence leading to vehicle damage would not be tolerated, emphasising that these resources are intended to serve the public, not for personal exploitation.
