Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has presented a cash gift of ₦50 million to the Super Falcons ahead of their second-leg clash against the Benin Republic’s Amazons in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement on Monday at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while hosting the national team ahead of Tuesday’s decisive qualifier at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in the state capital.
He expressed delight over the team’s return to the stadium, saying it signified that the state was “doing something right.” Abiodun also revealed plans to further develop the stadium’s surroundings with facilities such as a four or five-star hotel, cinema, and shopping centre.
Congratulating the Super Falcons on their record-extending 10th WAFCON title, the governor commended the players for maintaining Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football through their triumph in Morocco.

Governor Abiodun further noted that the Super Falcons’ impact goes beyond football, describing the team as a symbol of leadership, teamwork, and discipline.
In his remarks, the team’s Head Coach, Justin Madugu, expressed gratitude for the warm reception, support, and hospitality the Falcons consistently enjoy whenever they visit Abeokuta. He added that the MKO Abiola Sports Arena provides an enabling environment that makes their work easier.
Speaking on behalf of her teammates, captain Rasheedat Ajibade appreciated Governor Abiodun for his unwavering support and for maintaining a world-class sporting facility. She assured him that the team would continue to make Nigerians proud by securing victories whenever they wear the national colours.
Nigeria, the defending champions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, secured a 2-0 win over Benin Republic in the first leg. The return leg is scheduled for today (Tuesday), with the overall winner earning qualification for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
