The Ogun State Government, through its Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, has suspended a teacher accused of beating and disciplining Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student of Obada Grammar School in Obada, Idi-Emi, an incident that allegedly resulted in the student’s death.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, also led to the teacher’s immediate arrest. Meanwhile, the school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, was formally questioned for permitting corporal punishment, which is contrary to state regulations.

The principal has been given 24 hours to provide an explanation for her actions and clarify why disciplinary measures should not be applied against her for defying established policies.

Following the tragedy, a condolence letter was sent to the bereaved family, expressing sympathy for the sudden loss of their beloved son and assuring them that justice will be pursued on their behalf.

Signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, the letter described the late student as an outstanding individual who will be greatly missed by his peers, school, and the wider community.

It also offered prayers for the family’s strength to bear this profound loss and for the peaceful repose of the young soul.
