A tragic oil tanker explosion in Niger State on Saturday claimed numerous lives and left several others injured.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, with many victims burned beyond recognition.
The tanker, carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), reportedly exploded after an accident, as some residents attempted to scoop its contents.
The explosion resulted in scores of fatalities, while numerous others suffered varying degrees of burns.
Channels Television refrained from sharing additional graphic videos and photos from the explosion. However, reports indicate that as many as 100 people were burned in the incident.
Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has expressed deep shock over the tragic incident.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the explosion as deeply troubling, heartbreaking, and unfortunate.
He sympathised with the families of the victims of the explosion and prayed that Allah would repose the souls of the departed and heal the injured.
The governor, however, cautioned the people to always be responsible and give priority to their safety.
He directed all the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to do what was necessary, while urging the security agents to ensure security in the area.
