The Awolowo family has announced the death of Olusegun Awolowo Jr., a distinguished Nigerian lawyer and grandson of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In a moving statement, the family remembered Awolowo as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, emphasizing his steadfast dedication to his family, his profession, and his country.

“He was the world’s most phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family,” the statement read. “A painfully loyal servant to Nigeria, he dedicated his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment.”

Awolowo served as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2021, playing a significant role in advancing Nigeria’s trade and export sector.

Born on 27 September 1963, he was widely respected for his commitment to public service and efforts to promote Nigeria’s economic growth. The family expressed profound gratitude for his life and legacy, stating, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

Olusegun Awolowo Jr. is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His passing closes a chapter marked by devotion to family, faith, and national service, leaving a lasting impact in both public and private life.
