On Saturday, March 19, 2022, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, will marry a new wife in Kano State.

Oba Akanbi would marry Princess Firdauz Abdullahi at the Madakin Kano’s residence in Yola Quarters, Kano, according to an invitation obtained on Wednesday.

Following the wedding, a ladies-only reception will be held at the palace of Kano’s Emir, Alhaji Aminu Bayero.

Alli Ibrahim, Oluwo’s spokesman, confirmed the ‘Royal Wedding,’ adding that preparations for the event were proceeding smoothly.

He did say, however, that the Oluwo might not be in Kano for the wedding because of his position as supreme monarch.

“Baba is not likely to be there (in Kano) as a paramount ruler. They will bring the wife to him in Iwo. There is no cause for alarm,” Ibrahim stated.

The Oluwo’s last marriage to a Jamaican, Chanel Chin, which produced a son, crashed in December 2019, and since then, the monarch has not been openly associated with any woman.

Before the official invite was released, a letter had initially surfaced, where Oba Akanbi had reportedly solicited financial assistance from the Osun State Government towards the wedding.

The palace, however, dismissed the letter, saying it did not emanate from the monarch.
