A petroleum products dealer based in Akure, Ondo State capital, Sesan Adelabu, reportedly macheted his wife, Bolu Adelabu, to death in their residence at Alagbaka GRA area of the city on Friday.

Following the alleged killing of his wife, Adelabu, also known as Emirate, presumably named after his retail outlet, reportedly took his own life by ingesting a poisonous substance suspected to be an insecticide.

On Friday evening, officers from the Special Protection Unit stationed at the A Division Station in Akure, who were attached to his residence, responded to a distress call from the deceased’s son. The son had been attempting to reach his father repeatedly via phone calls without success.

Upon entering the house, the officer discovered Adelabu’s lifeless body in the toilet and his wife’s remains on the bed, bearing several machete wounds. An empty bottle of insecticide was found on the floor.

The police subsequently evacuated the bodies of Adelabu and his wife to the mortuary.

A news release from SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident.

She mentioned that the State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to assume control of the case.

Omisanya stated that an investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. She added that the scene has been sealed off to facilitate police procedures.

As of the time of filing this report, no family member of the deceased couple has commented on the incident.
