Staff members of the Ondo State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo have launched an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their salary arrears by the Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration.
The workers, organized by their various unions, held a peaceful protest on the polytechnic campus.
The disgruntled employees expressed that, in addition to being owed six months’ salary, the state government has yet to implement the national minimum wage for them.
Carrying placards with messages like “We are hungry, pay our six months’ salaries,” “Mr. Governor, please implement our 2025 budget,” and “Acting Rector, please clear our 2022, 2023, and 2024 promotion arrears,” the workers voiced their frustration over the ongoing delay in payments.
Union chairman Julius Olugbenga-Aro, during his address, appealed to Aiyedatiwa to authorize the immediate settlement of the outstanding salaries.
He also called for the implementation of the new national minimum wage for the workers.
