Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a prophet, Festus James, suspected of raping a 22-year-old pregnant woman in Agbabu, near Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

James who claimed to be a prophet was said to have visited the community, claiming he was directed by the Holy Spirit to visit the community for a three-day Holy Ghost Revival in one of the churches in the area.

It was gathered that the acclaimed prophet who lives in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, claimed to have received a vision about the 22-year-old pregnant lady and asked her to wait behind after the programme, only to have carnal knowledge of the young lady.

Speaking during the parade of the suspect, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, explained that the suspect told the young lady he needs to deliver her from the evil spirit.

Odunlami said “the prophet claimed to have seen a vision concerning a 22-year-old lady who was eight months pregnant and told her to wait behind after the programme.

“He took the pregnant lady into one of the rooms in the mission house under the guise of delivering her from an evil spirit and had carnal knowledge of her.”

Speaking to newsmen, the prophet said though he had sex with the woman, he did not rape her and said he did not know what came over him when he was carrying out the act.

Odunlami, however, said the suspect had confessed to the crime and will be charged to court.

Obasi was conveying the accoutrements which include ten pairs of military camouflage trousers, eight military camouflage jackets, nine pairs of military knee protectors and nine pairs of military fez caps in a Toyota Sienna bus marked UWN 505 ZL when he was arrested.
