One dead as communities clash in Ebonyi

A land dispute between the Oso-Edda, Amasiri, and Nde Ndukwe Communities in Ebonyi state has resulted in the death of one individual.

Reports has it that local sources claim members of the Nde Ndukwe and Amasiri communities raided farm settlement settlements in s-Edda and destroyed homes, agricultural output, and every other item in sight.

The settlements of Amasiri and Nde Ndukwe are located within the boundaries of the Afikpo North Local Government Area.

According to reports, the crisis broke out on Monday and persisted until Wednesday until security forces intervened to put an end to it.

Additionally, it was reported that a community leader in Afikpo South Local government had been slain and beheaded.

According to reports, intruders took the head and it is still yet to be found.

The incident was revealed in a statement by Chima Ekumankama, the chairman of Afikpo South Local Government Area.

He expressed sadness over the situation and made a commitment that the government would provide inhabitants in the villages with necessary security.

“I Hon. Prince Chima Ekumankama wishes to call on the good people of Okporojo, Oso and Edda Clan in general to remain calm and law abiding over the unwarranted invadement of Okporojo in Oso and other part of Edda Clan by our neighbours of Nde Ndukwe and Amasiri of Afikpo North LGA where properties, farm produce worth millions of naira and a life was lost”

“The situation is pathetic and painful, thus while I sympathise with all those affected, I implore the good people of Oso and Edda in general to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses as the situation is under control”, he said.

Four people were abducted in Okporojo village in the Oso-Edda region of the State.

However, they were freed following a peace meeting organized by the presidents of both councils with the assistance of certain local authorities and security personnel.

Chris Anyanwu, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, responded to the attack by saying that he was waiting for a police report from the scene before reacting.

“Once I get the authenticated information about what is going on there then I will react.”
