On Sunday night in Awkuzu/Lumbumber Street, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, a reoccurring cult conflict between opposing cult gangs has claimed one life.

The assassination, according to the locals, was the result of a conflict between suspected D12 and BS of Deygbam cult group factions over dominance and territory.

This followed after a similar altercation that occurred along the Illabuchi neighbourhood of Mile 1, Diobu in Port Harcourt, on Saturday night and resulted in the death of an unidentified guy.

Although the newest murder’s specifics were hazy at the time this report was filed, a local source claimed the victim was from Akwa Ibom.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The man was ambushed by over 10 men who shot severally and left him in a pool of his blood.

“Later, the relatives of the man went to the Divisional Police headquarters in Mile 1 to make an official complaint.”

Residents reportedly fled for safety owing to the deafening sound of gunfire, and many chose to stay inside to avoid being struck by stray bullets.

When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, verified the occurrence and said the cult-related killing was one too many.

She stated, “The Command is aware. I think it is still related to the battle of supremacy by these cult groups.

“We have commenced investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and meant to face the law.”.
