One dead, seven injured in Yobe drinking joint explosion

Only five days after Boko Haram massacred ten people in a beer parlour in Geidam, an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Gashua, the headquarters of Yobe State’s Bade Local Government Area, killed one person and injured seven others.

The seven injured people are being treated at the Gashua Specialist Hospital. The explosion happened around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday at the Abasha Gidan Amarya drinking joint, when a loud noise erupted, sending the entire town into chaos.

ASP Dungus Abdulkareem, the Yobe State Command’s Public Relations Officer, verified the incident.

“It looks like a coordinated attack targeted at drinking joint. Our EOD detectives are at the scene to find out what type of explosion and the cause of the explosion.

“There is one person that is confirmed dead with seven others as casualties. More details will come up after the investigation. Dungus noted,” Abdulkareem said.
