One dies, 12 injured in failed Rivers jailbreak
During a fight that turned into an attempted jailbreak at the Port Harcourt correctional prison on Monday afternoon, at least one inmate died and 12 others were injured.
According to reports, two convicts were involved in a brawl that resulted in the death of one of them, while other inmates protested.
Many inmates attempted to scale the facility’s high walls, but were stopped by an united team of security personnel who fired shots from outside the barrier, wounding 12 of them.
Juliet Ofoni, a spokeswoman for the Port Harcourt detention facility, verified the occurrence.
