One wounded, van razed as gunmen attack vigilante group in Anambra

A person sustained injuries, and a van was set ablaze when gunmen ambushed members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group from the Umuchu community along the Amesi/Uga Road.

According to police authorities, the attack occurred on Sunday, resulting in one injury. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as security forces work to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of the area.

“The Joint Security Forces quickly rushed the victim to the hospital where he is currently responding to treatment and activated intelligent-information-led patrols in the area aimed to deny the criminals the space they enjoy to cause havoc and possibly arrest,” the Anambra Police Command said via a Monday statement by their spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga.

“Unfortunately, during the gun duel bullets hit the fuel tank of the Toyota Frontier Van belonging to the AVG. As a result, the van was razed down.”

In a separate incident, police operatives from the Okpoko Divisional Headquarters of the Anambra State Police Command successfully thwarted attempts by hoodlums to capitalize on a fire outbreak at Chukwunonso Street along Obodoukwu Road, Okpoko.

According to the police spokesperson, Ikenga, the officers quickly cordoned off the area to prevent the criminals from looting properties and goods. The swift response helped maintain order and protected the affected individuals’ belongings during the emergency.

“Meanwhile, the swift response of the Fire Service Operatives brought the situation under control. The Command has however begun an investigation into the cause of the fire incident to avert future occurrences,” he said.
