Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was on Sunday bestowed with the esteemed chieftaincy title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Mrs Tinubu arrived at the Ooni’s palace at about 1 p.m. to a colourful reception and tight security, where she was welcomed by the monarch and his chiefs.

The installation, which took place at the Palace Square, formed part of activities marking Oba Ogunwusi’s 10th coronation anniversary.

The ceremony attracted a distinguished assembly of traditional rulers and prominent figures from across Yorubaland, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, along with cultural leaders and other eminent guests.

The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua holds deep cultural value and was previously worn by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the iconic statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo. It symbolises leadership, influence, and societal impact, especially within the Yoruba cultural heritage.

This latest honour adds to the growing list of traditional titles conferred on Senator Tinubu across the country this year.

In August 2025, she was honoured as Iya Oba of Ikorodu by Oba Kabir Shotobi of Lagos State.

Earlier in June, the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council awarded her the title Ugosimba I of Enugu for her humanitarian work and dedication to national progress.

She also received the title Sarauniyar Yaki (Queen Warrior) in October from the Lamido of Akko in Gombe State, recognising her efforts toward safeguarding vulnerable populations nationwide.
