OpenAI, a major US tech giant, specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has announced that its ChatGPT search feature is now available to everyone, which has eliminated the need for users to sign up.

This feature was launched in November 2024 for paid subscribers. A month later, it was made available to free-tier users, but they still had to create accounts. Eventually, the firm announced that it would expand its feature availability to users without accounts.

According to OpenAI, their first aim is to make AI-driven search available to everyone. The feature is powered by OpenAI’s latest GPT-4o model so that users can enter their queries and get the response in a real-time web search.

As reported by the Indian Express, this announcement by the firm highlights that it wants to take over its rivals and traditional internet search giants like Google and Bing. As the tech giants like Google and Bing have many restrictions on search terms and sometimes provide complex responses.

Compared to them the ChatGPT search will easily understand what the users want to search and will respond in an easy and readable way that the users can understand easily.

To use the ChatGPT feature the users simply have to tap on the Search button that appears below the text field and the users are good to go. Similar to Google users can also place the ChatGPT Search as their default search engine in their favorite web browser.

To maintain its transparency, ChatGPT Search has made its sources public. The users will be able to refer to the sources as a clickable icon will appear after sentences where external information will be provided for users to verify the source. Secondly, a list of sources is provided at the bottom of each response, offering further clarity of information.

However, OpenAI has not charged any rate limits for the unregistered users who will use ChatGPT search.
