Former President Yemi Osinbajo has praised Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, for what he called focused and people-oriented leadership that is steering the state toward lasting development and shared prosperity.

Osinbajo made the remarks on Wednesday during a courtesy visit that coincided with Otti’s birthday. He said Otti’s performance demonstrates that genuine public service is about creating real impact in citizens’ lives.
“I am extremely proud of the work you have done so far. You have lived up to expectations — not only to the people but also to your friends and associates. In the short time I have been here, I have seen tangible evidence of progress,” he stated.

The former Vice President highlighted Otti’s social intervention efforts, particularly the signing of the Senior Citizens’ Law, describing it as a compassionate and responsible policy. He stressed that any effective welfare structure must prioritise the vulnerable.
He also applauded the sweeping road rehabilitation projects and improved connectivity across the state, calling them clear signs of leadership focused on measurable outcomes.

Speaking on the nature of leadership, Osinbajo observed that although many strive to hold public office, the real test lies in performance.“Sometimes you wonder whether, after all the efforts to get into office, leaders are able to fulfil their promises.
“But in your case, you have done not just what you promised, but even more. You have made public service worthwhile,” he added.

He further prayed for renewed strength, wisdom and divine grace for Otti as he continues to govern the state.
In his reply, Otti described Osinbajo as a brother, mentor and friend, expressing appreciation for the visit.
He clarified that the gathering was not organised as a formal birthday celebration but merely an acknowledgement of the day, noting that he seldom marks such occasions publicly, particularly while in office.
The governor thanked supporters who attended voluntarily and reiterated his commitment to humility and service. He attributed the administration’s progress over 32 months to divine guidance, describing the achievements as modest yet meaningful.

“Governance is about the people — their welfare, their safety and their peace of mind. If you enter office for any other reason, you miss the essence of leadership,” Otti said.
He recounted decisive steps taken within the first month of his administration when certain local councils were reportedly under the influence of non-state actors. He said firm action restored normalcy and reopened previously restricted areas to residents.

Otti also commended security agencies for sustaining peace and stability across the state.
“We are grateful to the men and women who stay awake so that our people can sleep in peace,” he said.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, speaking for the State Executive Council, conveyed birthday wishes to the governor and prayed for continued strength and productive years.

Representatives of financial institutions, including Access Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, and United Bank for Africa, described Otti as an example of principled leadership, adding that his administration has set a standard for effective governance. They also offered prayers for good health and wisdom as he advances his agenda in the state.
