Ademola Adeleke, the newly elected governor of Osun State, was recognized as the PDP candidate for last Saturday’s governorship election by a Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Wednesday.
PDP chieftain Dotun Babayemi unsuccessfully challenged the validity of the primary held by the party’s national leadership at the party’s governorship primaries before the High Court.
He appealed the high court’s ruling to the appellate court because he was dissatisfied with it, but the appellate court likewise dismissed his appeal on Wednesday.
As the PDP candidate for the July 16 governorship election in Osun state, Babayemi had dragged Adeleke before a federal high court in Osogbo.
The party’s Babayemi and Adeleke factions held separate governorship primaries on March 8, 2021.
In the primary election held at Children and Women Development Center in Osogbo, Babayemi was proclaimed the winner.
On the other side, the governor-elect won the party’s nomination at the Osogbo City Stadium primary.
