#OsunDecides: ‘Ole, Ole,’ residents mock APC governors as they leave after election [TRENDING VIDEO]
Some residents of Osun State have reportedly mocked a convoy believed to be carrying All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and other party leaders as it departed the state following Saturday’s governorship election.
A viral video circulating on social media showed residents watching the convoy leave in the early hours of Sunday while chanting “Ole, Ole” and making other remarks directed at those inside the vehicles.
The reaction followed the outcome of the election, which has so far favoured the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Several APC governors and senior party officials had spent days in Osun campaigning for the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the poll.
Among the governors who visited the state were Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Others included Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, his deputy, Barau Jibrin, and other senior APC leaders also participated in the party’s campaign activities ahead of the election.
The presence of the APC heavyweights reflected the importance the ruling party attached to the election as it sought to defeat Adeleke and take control of Osun State.
However, results collated from across the state have so far given Adeleke the advantage.
The incumbent governor has won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji has secured victories in 11 LGAs.
The results have placed Adeleke in a strong position as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) moves towards the final declaration of the election.
With the incumbent leading in 19 LGAs, attention has now shifted from campaign activities to the conclusion and official declaration of the election results.
