Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State on Saturday as residents vote in the state governorship election.
In a post shared on his verified X account early Saturday, Davido said, “I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
The claim came shortly after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The restriction is part of the security measures introduced for the election, which has seen the deployment of thousands of police officers and other security personnel across the state.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively participating in his uncle’s campaign for another term under the Accord Party.
Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election against several candidates, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the off-cycle election.
Davido’s post quickly attracted widespread attention online, with social media users offering different interpretations of the situation.
While some users suggested that the alleged attempt to restrict his movement could be linked to the already announced election-day movement restrictions, others raised concerns about whether the singer was being specifically targeted because of his support for the incumbent governor.
Reacting to Davido’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described it as “dramatic”, pointing out that security agencies had already announced restrictions on movement throughout the state as part of arrangements for a peaceful election.
“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Ahmad wrote.
