Over 28 terrorists were killed in airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Group Captain Kabiru Ali, NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, announced this in a statement on Thursday, revealing that the operation was executed by the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch on Wednesday, September 11.

“The mission targeted terrorists in Bassa following a request for air support from friendly forces in the area,” Ali said.

Upon arrival, NAF air assets identified over 100 terrorists engaged in a fierce firefight with friendly forces. After confirming the positions of the friendly troops, precision airstrikes were carried out on the terrorists’ positions.

“The strikes were highly effective, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in multiple passes. So far, 28 bodies have been recovered from the area, with more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared,” Ali confirmed.

He emphasized that the operation highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the nation and supporting other security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and other criminal activities.

The Air Force assured Nigerians that it will continue to carry out air operations, both independently and in coordination with ground forces, to eliminate all threats to the country’s peace, security, and prosperity.
