An air force aircraft has reportedly gone down in a community within Borgu LGA of Niger State.

A video shared on Saturday by Lapai TV, an online television outlet in the state, captured the aftermath of the incident and was posted on its Facebook page.

Reports indicate that two pilots successfully ejected from the jet before it crashed near Karabonde community.

According to the publication, a mechanical fault triggered the crash, prompting the pilots to eject moments before impact.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is yet to release an official statement on the incident. Notably, this occurrence adds to previous crash records involving NAF aircraft.

In 2023, a NAF trainer jet crashed in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. While there were no fatalities, both pilots sustained injuries and were hospitalised.

Similarly, in 2021, a fighter jet deployed for operations against Boko Haram insurgents lost radar contact and crashed in Borno State.

Another crash was recorded in Kaduna in 2017, where Olatokunbo Adesanya, then director of public relations and information, confirmed the death of a pilot instructor involved in the incident.

In 2015, a Dornier-228 aircraft with the call sign NAF030 crashed into Ribadu Cantonment (Old NDA) in Kaduna State, resulting in the deaths of all seven passengers on board.
